Grade 10: £55,750 - £64,605 per annum (with a discretionary range from £66,539 - £70,579 per annum). Depending on experience, this role may be offered at Grade 9: £48,114 - £55,750 per annum with reduced responsibilities)

We are seeking to recruit a Group Leader with research interests in cancer epigenetics or cancer and infection to head a research group at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, Oxford Branch. We encourage applications from researchers with relevant background and experience. Researchers with a background in epigenetics in the immune system and interactions with metabolism in the context of cancer biology and potential connections to translational medicine would be of particular interest.

As a Group Leader, you will initiate and implement long-term, often interdisciplinary research programmes in cancer epigenetics or cancer and infection. You will develop novel areas of research for publication in high impact journals. You will collaborate with other scientists to achieve your research aims. You will be responsible for the management and monitoring of substantial research resources and budgets. You will generate research income and actively promote the research area. You will write funding applications for new projects and play a key role in establishing overall research strategy. You will provide effective people management by motivating, supervising and communicating with all members of the team and provide academic supervision for research students, ensuring intellectual stimulus and access to resources necessary for a successful period of study at the Institute. 

You will have a relevant PhD/DPhil with significant post-qualification research experience, including experience in leading successful and novel research programmes. You will have an international reputation and a specialist knowledge in cancer epigenetics or cancer and infection. You must have evidence of an established international publication record and a successful track record of attracting funding and managing budgets. An appointment at grade 9 will be considered for applicants with less experience but who have the appropriate research profile.

The Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research will provide significant resources including core funded posts and consumables/equipment budgets. This post is offered full-time on a 5-year fixed term contract funded by the Ludwig Core Award.
