Three researchers from Ludwig Oxford ran a science workshop for pupils aged 9-11 at St Mary Abbots Primary School. Tammie Bishop, Olivia Lombardi and Virginia Schmid taught the children about DNA biology, mutations and inheritance. The workshop was very successful with one teacher reporting that it was the ‘talk of the town amongst the children at lunch break afterwards’.

On Saturday 8th September 2018 12.30-3 pm, the Old Road Campus Research Building (ORCRB), housing Ludwig Cancer Research, the Jenner Institute, the Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) and the Department of Oncology opened to the public as part of the Oxford Open Doors scheme run by the Oxford Preservation Trust. Each unit had a stand in the main atrium of the building with fun educational activities for all ages.

A group of Ludwig public engagement volunteers took our newly created family friendly activities to a sunny Headington Festival in Bury Knowle Park on Sunday 3rd June. The Headington Festival is an annual event run by Headington Action and features ~50 stalls from local organisations, plus a programme of live entertainment.

On Sunday 13th May 2018, over 20 members of Ludwig Oxford participated in the Town and Gown 10 km run in support of Muscular Dystrophy UK. Carlos Ruiz-Puig was the fastest Ludwig athlete with a time of 43 min. Congratulations to all that took part!

The Curiosity Carnival came to town on Friday 29 September 2017, with hundreds of free activities across central Oxford for all ages and interests – including games, talks, music, dance, live experiments and walking tours – celebrating how research affects all our lives.

Around 25 staff and students from the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research donned their running shoes and team t-shirts to run 10K in support of Muscular Dystrophy UK. The 2017 Oxford 'Town and Gown' race on Sunday 14th May attracted more than 4000 runners, from first-timers to serious athletes. The Ludwig team were rewarded for all their training efforts by beautiful sunshine and a fantastic crowd.

World Cancer Day takes place on February 4 each year. Researchers at Ludwig Oxford and the wider NDM are trying to understand the epidemiology and potential causes of cancer, its effect on patient lives and outcomes, as well as the basic science underpinning the unregulated cell growth that is the hallmark of the disease. To mark World Cancer Day, NDM has asked some of our scientists - including Xin Lu - about their research.
