Background

I studied Mathematics at Worcester College, Oxford before moving to Leicester University to take a PhD investigating formal languages and the word problem in groups and semigroups, supervised by Prof Rick Thomas.

After working for defence company QinetiQ, as a publisher of books on open source programming languages for Apress, and as an internet troublemaker for mySociety.org, I returned to Oxford as a programmer for the Bioinformatics Core at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics.
