research interests

My research focuses on how the association between genetic variants and melanoma risk develop independently of UV light. Some skin cancers such as acral melanoma are not related to UV light damage and the genomic landscape has shown differences between expression profiles, ancestry, age and anatomical position. The generation of models that allow the study of differences between melanoma types could improve our knowledge of the carcinogenesis process and provide new therapeutic targets.

Background

Previously to joining Richard's White group I was doing an internship in the laboratory of Daniela Robles Espinoza at the International Laboratory for Human Genome Research in Mexico. I was analysing genetic variants associated with the risk of developing melanoma. I have performed experimental essays in cells and bioinformatics analysis trying to understand how the process of tumorigenesis and metastasis occurs in Cutaneous and Acral Melanoma.
