Ludwig Oxford research groups are recruiting DPhil candidates for the funded DPhil in Cancer Science, NDM prize studentship and Oxford-MRC Doctoral Training Partnership Industrial Case programmes commencing in October 2023

We are currently recruiting exceptional students for DPhil studentships commencing in October 2023 funded by the following schemes:

DPhil in Cancer Science

Studentships are available for the DPhil in Cancer Science Programme, funded by Cancer Research UK. These are aimed at clinical trainees, medicine undergraduates and non-clinical researchers interested in cancer research projects based in University of Oxford research groups.

There are several projects available in Ludwig Oxford laboratories:

  • Understanding the hepatic immune and molecular environment in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma – Professor Ellie Barnes
  • Spatial resolution of the human transcriptome during gastrointestinal tumourigenesis- Dr Francesco Boccellato
  • Spatial modelling and quantification of T Cell exhaustion in the tumour microenvironment of oesophageal cancer – Professor Helen Byrne
  • Adipocytes as a source of nutrition for breast cancer cells - Professor Skirmantas Kriaucionis
  • Epigenetic control of cancer cell phenotypes via nuclear F-actin based chromosome motility – Professor Yang Shi
  • Multimodal cell-free DNA epigenetic sequencing for early detection of pancreatic cancer- Professor Chunxiao Song

All places are fully funded at the home rate, including salary/stipend, University and College fees, and a research consumables budget. International candidates are eligible but will need to source funding to meet the remaining fees. For more information about funding, see the Oxford Cancer website.

Applications must be completed on the University of Oxford graduate application system by 9th December 2022. Interviews will take place in January 2023.

NDM prize studentship competition

The studentships pay the course fees for overseas or home students and have a generous stipend of £18,000 per annum, which is tax-free. The studentships are available via the NDM Prize Studentship Competition and applications must be completed on the University of Oxford graduate application system by 9th December 2022. Interviews will take place on 18-20th January 2023.

Oxford-MRC Doctoral Training Partnership (MRC-DTP) Industrial Case (iCASE) Awards

The Enterprise studentship programme offers a stimulating educational experience as part of the Oxford-MRC DTP cohort, with the additional benefit of working closely with an industrial partner. Students will work for at least 3 months in the associated company.

There is one project available involving a Ludwig Oxford laboratory:

Studentships are open to both UK and non-UK nationals and each iCASE studentship is fully-funded, including four years of stipend at the UKRI stipend level plus £2,500 per annum, course fees, and a generous research training support grant. Applications must be received by 12 noon (UK time) Friday 9 December 2022.
