Claudia Zagami, a DPhil student from Francesco Boccellato’s group, gave a talk at the TEDx Youth in Varese, Italy on 19th June 2021. Claudia and 14 other young (18-28 year old) speakers were selected to participate from 63 candidates from across Europe. 150 attended the half-day event and 100 watched online.

Claudia presented her research on organoids and their potential in revolutionising medicine. She explained what organoids are and why their usage along with other 3D models is important for progressing in medicine. She discussed their possible applications in personalised cancer treatment, personalised regenerative medicine, drug discovery for rare diseases and gene editing.

I really enjoyed the whole experience. We were coached for 2 months to learn the format for a TED-style talk and to present difficult concepts to the non-scientific public. I found it inspiring to share my passion for science and instil curiosity for research in the audience. Following this event, I would love to invest more of my time in public engagement and teaching. - Claudia Zagami, TEDxVarese Youth 2021 speaker.
